Our History
Our church was founded in March 1960 by our late founder, Pastor Katie Shaw. She established the 1st church in the State of New Jersey under the Original Glorious Churches of God in Christ organization of which their headquarters was based out of Cleveland, Ohio. Under her leadership, the church grew tremendously. Young people as well as old were being taught to follow Christ. We moved to various locations in the 1960s. In late 1969, we acquired a store front location on the corner of 16th Avenue and Jacob Street in the city of Newark,NJ.

In the year 1970, Pastor Katie Shaw was lead by the Lord to become an affiliate of the Independent Church of God in Christ Jesus, Inc. organization under the leadership of the late Bishop Charlie Jones. It was then she renamed the church, “Shiloh Temple Antioch Independent C.O.G.I.C. Jesus, Inc”. Just before her death in August of 1975, she appointed the assistant pastor of the church, Minister Virginia A. Shaw to take charge of the pastorate.

With the help and support of the church members, Pastor Virginia A.Shaw has been a leader with a mind of Christ having a heart for the people. The church always had an adult choir, up to this point. With special love and concern for the children, she formed a children’s choir and called them the “Shilohettes”. They became very popular in the local area and were requested to sing out often at various churches. As the church continued to grow, Pastor Virginia A. Shaw and the church members recognized a need to relocate to a larger place of worship. In 1977, the church found and purchased a building at 547 South 19th Street in Newark, NJ. Even though the church acquired this facility, parking for the patrons was a challenge. Within a three year period, the Lord gave the church favor and we purchased 3 lots of land that were located adjacent to the church. We now utilize them for parking and church activities such as outreach ministries and fellowship.
